The Story Behind In Covenant
In Covenant came from a season of wanting to explore love, desire, faith, and relationships in a more honest way. I was heavily inspired by James Blake and the way he blends emotional singing with hip-hop and electronic-inspired production, which pushed me to experiment with a more melodic rap and alternative pop sound throughout parts of the EP.
At the same time, I knew I still had a deeper rock side I wanted to continue exploring after releasing songs like Skies of Gray. I’ve always enjoyed writing more emotional rock records with live instrumentation, distortion guitars, and cinematic builds, so I wanted In Covenant to show both sides of my music — the atmospheric electronic and melodic side, alongside the indie and alternative rock sound I love making.
A major inspiration behind the themes of the EP was the story of Song of Songs and Solomon himself. The contrast was fascinating to me — someone capable of writing so beautifully and romantically about love while also struggling deeply with lust and desire. That tension felt very human and relatable, and it became a central theme across the project. The EP reflects the search for real love, struggles with temptation, emotional loneliness, and asking God for guidance while navigating relationships and desire.
